Robert Peston must stand out as the iconic figure of these troubled times. Modulating his voice in ever stranger ways he continues to explore for us the murky story of our financial institutions and our dubious control over them and his erudition seems to surpass anything GB, with his distinctly unmodulated murmur, might have achieved. As soon as the PM seems to offer a glimmer of hope RP steps in again and fades it with more gloomy prognostications.
How about an open debate with GB and RP as the main contenders? The subject of course will be “We are all doomed!”. The Archbishop of Canterbury will be there to referee and sum up threby ensuring that we will never reach a conclusion.
