A lot of nonsense is talked about social networks. The teenagers I know, my grandchildren, great nieces and nephews and their friends who are members of sites such as Facebook don’t in fact spend much time each day updating their pages. Part of the explanation is that they are all very computer literate, quick and don’t consider for too long what they should write - for good or ill. But at least they are writing something and expressing themselves. They also lead rich and varied social lives; none of them are loners, still less recluses!

In fact I suspect some adults, including myself, are getting less dexterous - though not I hope less computer literate - and ponder too long about what reactions will be to what they write.
