Well now we know! Eric Joyce, Labour MP for Falkirk and one of Tony Blair’s erstwhile strongest defenders. He is the most expensive rider on the gravy train having received a total of £187k in addition to his Parliamentary salary and associated costs. This is made up of  £41k on travel, £22k on the cost of staying away from his main home £21k on office running costs, no less than £88k on staffing, leaving aside a paltry £4k on stationery and postage. £1.5k on IT and the £8k cost of  his basic communications allowance.

Now one is not, of course, saying that any of these sums were claimed illegally but they do represent a rather  substantial addition to his salary. In fairness it must also be said that his reward for his junior ministerial rank at Defence is probably too small and that he is a capable MP. He has acted many times as a television spokesman, notably in support of Mr Blair at the time of the invasion of Iraq; he may of course now have changed his mind on this subject. We will not hear about this until he is invited to comment on the enquiry into the Iraq war but that, it seems, may not be until some considerable time has elapsed. Still we will be looking forward to it especially if Mr Blair does not have the time in his busy life to comment himself.
