Participation

Facebook has millions of members. The BBC , HM Government and  nearly all the national print media and most digital TV and radio providers now maintain websites. Some of these are very lively and invite, and get, online  audience participation.  It is easy now to set up your own blog and many do so, even very elderly people. Most companies, even quite small ones, maintain websites. Millions run their bank accounts and other financial affairs online. It is a digital age for all.

I nag on again about the apparent unwillingness of Network members to participate in our own online presence. I cannot believe it is a lack of basic computer skills. I hope it isn’t because the sites we provide don’t offer enough interest. If that is the explanation well, for goodness sake, let us know! It would of course be revealing to know how many Network members contribute to other websites and blogs.

I don’t expect members to spend much time on our own website. But  once a month, say, might not be too much to ask, would it ?  And the occasional contribution to the FORUM, our new Facebook group  or this blog? Or perhaps you have nothing to say?

I was told the other day at the Spring Lunch by a member that “some of us have a life” when I tentatively suggested that, when he anticipated difficulty in finding the last lunch venue, he might have spent five minutes looking at the website (not to say reading more carefully the personal invitation emailed to him which did have full details of how to get there). If he had done this he might not have got lost (or maybe he would!)

I do have a life, a rather rich one and perhaps I would prefer not to spend the 10 minutes a day I usually spend updating this blog . I do run  another political blog which attracts comment and very lively discussion every day. I don’t have the slightest difficulty provoking comment there.

I’m not asking you to spend much time online if you don’t already do so but it would be nice sometimes to have a real indication that there is someone out there!
